The first thing that I’d like to say about this movie is
that it's different. This movie gets your attention like when you see a dog
doing a back flip. Road to Perdition
is in fact a movie of film noir. Film noir movies are very dark and just when
you think something good is about to happen or if you think the movie will end
in a happy your wrong. In the last scene of the movie they show the little
boy Michael running around having fun on the beach with his dog. Mike the boy’s
father, was standing in the big picture window looking out to him and then
"BANG" just like that he gets shot in the back twice by McGuire. You
would think after mike had just taken care of all the loose end people and went
to a house near the beach and everything would be okay but that’s not the case.
The movie had to end with mike dying and little Michael having no dad. Film
noir movies also involve a lot of smoking. In Road to Perdition they are always smoking cigars; they smoke them
like a steam engine gone crazy. Location is a key part in the movie. Whenever
they killed someone it would always be in a room or at night in an alley. One
thing that was happening over and over in this movie is the rain. Every time it
would rain you knew that something bad was going to happen. Someone would get
killed or something would happen where Mike and Michael would have to run for
their lives. In these film noir movies the attire they wear is kind of funny, these
gangsters are always wearing a fedora, long coat, and a nice suit that is black
and they carry a gun in the waste or jacket pocket. The women always wore a hat
and a dress. Mikes love for his son is really kind of incredible. He does not
want his son to become what he is and kill people. Mike did whatever he could
to make sure he didn’t end up like that. Even when mike got shot Michael came
in and aimed a gun at McGuire but he couldn’t pull the trigger. In that moment
when McGuire came closer mike took his gun and shot him. He has succeeded
and his boy never even touched a gun again. These are a few good reasons on why
this film is a film of noir. This movie is by far the greatest movie of film
noir.
